EDUCAUSE 2013
ANAHEIM, Calif.–ShareStream announced today at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference the availability of ShareStream v5.7, a major new release of ShareStream’s pioneering Video Platform for Education.
ShareStream is a turnkey system for the full lifecycle of media, complete with digital rights management. It is designed specifically to fulfill rising demand from educational institutions for integrating video and other forms of digital media into online courses and campus communications. ShareStream’s Online Video Platform for education can be implemented as either a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution, or as an on-premises solution installed in a customer’s datacenter.
New functionality introduced in this ShareStream release includes:
A New Course Media Copy Wizard
As adoption of ShareStream’s Video Extensions for Learning Management Systems (LMSs) has expanded to hundreds and even thousands of courses per implementation, copying course collections from prior semesters for reuse in new courses has become increasingly important to ShareStream’s users. ShareStream’s new Course Media Copy Wizard provides faculty and staff with an easy-to-use solution for linking ShareStream media collections that were used in prior courses to new courses in LMSs. The first time that a ShareStream tool or extension is accessed from a new course in an LMS, the Course Media Copy Wizard guides instructors (or instructional technologists) through the course copy process in a few simple steps.
New User Interface and Workflow for Publishing Video Players with Playlists
In addition to servicing instructional technology, distance learning and massive open online courses (MOOCs), and library media reserves and digital repositories, ShareStream is also widely used for public, open-access media, such as athletics, campus news and marketing. ShareStream v5.7 provides a streamlined workflow and a new user interface for publishing ShareStream media collections as a playlist. ShareStream playlists can be easily embedded into the content management systems (CMSs) that power educational institutions’ public web presences, such as Drupal, SharePoint and WordPress, as well as all of the most widely deployed LMSs.
One-Step Drag-and-Drop Bulk SFTP Upload for Massive-scale Media Migration
Prior to implementing an institution-wide media management system, educational institutions typically store large collections of pre-existing media files in various locations and in various formats. ShareStream’s bulk SFTP upload makes batch-ingesting these “silos” of content into ShareStream easy: project leads are able to use drag-and-drop (or a point-and-click action) to upload entire directories of media files into ShareStream MediaManager at once from any STFP client, and transcode the files to a wide variety of output formats for delivery to computers and mobile devices. ShareStream’s Bulk SFTP Upload feature eliminates a layer of technical complexity found in other bulk media upload over FTP/SFTP solutions: no custom-coding of an XML document is required for batch-ingestion jobs, and administrators do not have to manually set up user accounts on the SFTP client, as accounts are auto-provisioned by the ShareStream application. As this feature is designed for migrating en masse large directories of content into ShareStream with a low level of effort, ShareStream’s Bulk Upload Over SFTP feature also supports the ingestion of media collections with multilevel folders and nested subfolders, while still maintaining the media collections’ original directory structure in ShareStream.
